We Are A Community-Based Organisation

  • We are looking for elite tutors, like yourself, to join us in creating a Hub where tutors and students can meet to discuss study problems and to have fun learning together.

  • We want to form a powerful group of problem solvers who can take on academic challenges.

  • We value Teamwork, Integrity, Delivery, Consistency, and Enthusiasm, and our mission is to share our insights with younger engineering students who are in the same position we once were.

Our Practise

  • To create a hub, both physical and online.

  • To attract like-minded individuals who loves teaching, and learning by teaching.

  • To build and to sustain a community that stands out within Australia, empowering the next generation of successful maths, science, commerce, technology and engineering graduates.

In order for us to sustain this community we have set up rules as below:

  • Tutors must not accept payment in cash.

  • Tutors must not attend any private lessons, unless calendar invitation/s has been sent out and accepted by all parties.

  • Tutors will only attend sessions organised and agreed upon. In the case where (ad hoc) additional hour is requested by the Student on the day, it has to be communicated back to the team either via text messaging or email. Tutors who fails to follow this guideline may not get paid for the additional hours.

  • Tutors will manage lesson date/ time/ location directly with students and communicate any changes back to management team via text messaging or email.

  • Tutors will ensure all lessons are conducted with a minimum of one tutoring hour.

  • Recommended students stay within the Tutor Lim community.

  • Tutor’s Teachworks account is the source of truth for all hours conducted whilst working with Tutor Lim. Tutor’s billing hours will be based on all the lessons scheduled on Teachworks. Read more Tutors FAQ here.

  • When arranging classes with students, please make sure lessons are scheduled in advance. There are restrictions set to on the platform to minimise conflict between tutors and students. **

  • Tutors are expected to manage their own students. Tutors are expected to come prepared prior to any lessons. As a rule of thumb, Tutors are expected to spend at least 5-10 minutes, reading over the materials provided before attending any lessons.

** For example:

  • Tutors are to manage and to plan next lesson/s with their students.

  • Scheduling can be made by either students or tutors, using Teachworks (under Calendar tab).

  • Cancellation is NOT allowed within less than 24 hours notice, otherwise cancellation will be charged. (Yes, our tutors will get charged cancellation too).

  • Upon completion of each lesson, tutors are required to mark completion on the lesson. Failing to do so will cause confusion on the system and essentially we are unable to process your billable hours accordingly.

Violating these rules will result in a ban from our community.

Together, let’s be teachers. Rejoice in what you learn, and spread it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get paid for my trial lesson?

Yes, as long as you passed your trial session, the hours conducted will be included in your first payroll.

When do I get paid after first trial lesson?

Once a tutor completes his/her first trial lesson. Feedback will be retrieved from his/her student. As soon as the feedback is assessed and approved by staff member. Full tutor onboarding will be conducted and tutor will get a Teachworks account with first hour recorded within the system.

What is a student brief?

A Student Brief is a form of communication to share student background, university and specific challenges faced/highlighted by our students.

What is an intro email?

An Intro Email is an exchange of student contact details; a template for an introduction by the tutor (to student/s), as well as to place for scheduling details.

How long do I have once I received a student brief (or a new job)?

It’s first come, first serve! Student briefs are usually sent to multiple tutors who are aligned to task content — hand picked by our technical officers. Once you received a student brief, if you choose to accept the job, please do so at your earliest convenience to avoid any disappointment. Candidate who delays in responding back may find him/ herself losing tutoring opportunities. Usually within 1-4 hours the job will be taken.

When should I be sending the intro email to my student?

Once you received “intro email” communication from us, please make first contact with your student within 12 hours. Candidate who fails to do so, the job will expire, and task will get reallocated.
